Getting ready to PLUNGE into a new MOPS year!

I hope everyone is having a safe and exciting summer! We are getting ready to start the 2012-2013 MOPS year at Presbyterian Church of the Master, Mission Viejo/ Village Presbyterian, Ladera Ranch and I am super excited to welcome each and every one of you.

This year's MOPS International theme is  PLUNGE: Risk. Real. Relationships. The theme verse is: Love as if your life depended on it. 1 Peter 4:8-11

Taking the plunge in relationships is being authentic and going deeper. In a MOPS group, relationships offer hope to moms, especially as moms go deeper and take risks to create authentic community. All facets of relationships can be strengthened through taking risks, going deeper and showing authentic love – neighborhood, friendships, marriages, extended families, the world around us and ultimately relationship with God.

As a chapter of MOPS International, we are going to incorporate the PLUNGE theme in many exciting ways including speakers, crafts and plenty of good ole fashioned chit-chat.

We cannot wait to welcome you so if you haven't already, get your registration paperwork and payment for Fall semester in to Orva Bohm, our wonderful Finance leader. The link for paperwork is here. Registration is not considered complete until all the paperwork is turned in and we have received your payment.

Last MOPS of the Semester!

This Thursday (5/17) will be our LAST MOPS of the semester! If you are planning to return in the fall, be sure to register as soon as possible. Chilcare in our MOPPETS program is nearly full! Also,  please remember to thank your childcare workers for their time, dedication and love for our kids this past year! This week, we are excited to have Donna Jones with us. Here is a little taste of what she has in store for our time together:

Taming Your Family Zoo

Do you ever feel like your home is a zoo and your children are little monkeys? As co-founder and owner of Confidence & Courtesies, an etiquette course for kids, Donna has taught thousands of children how to live with confidence and courtesy – and she can teach you to tame your family zoo, too. With three monkeys of her own (four, if you count her husband!), Donna gives attainable, age-appropriate tips for raising well-mannered children.
Donna's bio....
Seldom can a speaker relate to young and old, seeker and veteran of the faith all at the same time – but somehow Donna Jones does. Her personal warmth and genuine love for Christ captivates her audiences, leaving her listeners feeling as though her message was meant just for them. Versatile and dynamic, Donna combines strong Biblical teaching with personal stories and application to inspire her audience to move one step closer to Christ. “I am passionate about encouraging and equipping women to know, love and obey Christ in their real, everyday lives. I want to know, love and obey God this way myself.” She is practical, inspiring, engaging and real. She will often make you laugh, sometimes make you cry, but always leave you with new insights into how to grow in your relationship with Christ.

Donna holds a B.A. in Communication Studies from UCLA and did graduate studies in Communications at USC. She served as a staff member for Campus Crusade for Christ for five years and has been in full time ministry for over 20 years. A sought after national speaker, Donna has encouraged and equipped women throughout the United States, Asia, Europe and Africa.
In addition to her weekly teaching ministry at her home church, Donna joined such notable speakers such as Stormie O’Martian, and John Ortberg as a featured Bible teacher on Zondervan’s small group DVD series “Surrendering to Christ”. She has been a guest on television shows such as Good Day Dallas and At Home Live! as well as numerous radio shows including HomeWord and Janet Parshall’s America. Donna has also been interviewed in Better Homes and Gardens, Family Circle and Parents magazines.
An active business woman, Donna co-founded Confidence & Courtesies, an etiquette course for kids and teens, which has been hosted by department stores throughout the United States. She is co-author of Confidence & Courtesies, a workbook for girls and Good Sport, a workbook for boys, and a contributing author for But Lord, I Was Happy Shallow. Her latest book, Taming Your Family Zoo; Six Weeks to Raising a Well-Mannered Child, was the featured book of the week on the Dr. Laura radio show.
Donna and her husband JP (Senior Pastor and Adjunct Professor at Biola University) have been married for over 20 years and reside in southern California with their three children. At home Donna can be found sipping coffee at Starbucks, feeding her frozen yogurt addiction or struggling to keep her garage clean enough to park in.

This Week: Celebrating Mother's Day

This week we will be celebrating Mother's Day with a catered breakfast (no one has to cook!) and special guest CJ Rapp.

Once a young woman suffering from low self-esteem and the consequences of poor choices, CJ has experienced first hand God's power to change lives. Her life revolved around the pursuit of shallow cultural values: acceptance, beauty, and career. But all they gave her was emptiness. Finally at the end of her own resources, she gave her life to Christ, and found a new beginning. Gradually, gently, God began to transform her heart, thinking, attitude, and actions. In time, her low self-esteem was exchanged for a rock solid identity in Christ. Encouraged by her husband John, and sons Dillon and Austin, she answered God's call and began ministering to women.

God is now using CJ's past experiences to connect her heart with the hearts of women across the nation. Today, CJ understands the power that words and cultural messages have on a woman's sense of worth. She knows the power of poor choices to keep a woman from believing God will use her. She comprehends a woman's need for significance in a world that marginalizes her contributions to society. She is tireless in her quest to encourage women to live the abundant, Spirit-filled, surrendered life. In addition to speaking to women at conventions, conferences, retreats and special events across the country, CJ teaches a Bible study class at her home church, Saddleback Church, in Lake Forest, CA. CJ is founder and CEO of Unfading Beauty Ministries, Inc. and Infusion Publishing (

See you Thursday!

Children of the Nations

Amy and I are very excited about the MOPS presentation this week. As moms, when we hear of children who are orphaned and do not get their basic human needs met (clean water, food, clothing, medical treatment and education), our hearts break. I hope that when our hearts are broken for something, that we will listen and that it becomes a call to action to do something to help. Children of the Nations seemed like a natural fit for our Mother's of Preschoolers group to come along side, to pray for and serve.

This week we are excited to have Lynne Nachtrieb at MOPS. She will be with us to share the vision of Children of the Nations. Children of the Nations (COTN) is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Silverdale, Washington, dedicated to raising children who transform nations. Founded in 1995, the organization currently provides holistic care to orphaned and destitute children in Sierra Leone, Malawi, Uganda, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti. By partnering with nationals, they establish full-care residential Children’s Homes (for orphans) and Village Partnership Programs (to benefit children living with destitute families or caregivers who are unable to properly provide for them). Children of the Nations believes that true, lasting, and meaningful change to a nation begins with the children, and so children are their mission."

Children of the Nations has many facets that care for and transform children's lives. For more info, check out their website:

This week we will also be doing a Creative Activity! See you Thursday!

Kicking Off 2012!

PCOM & Village MOPS will begin our new semester THIS Thursday, January 12th at 9:30am. Children can be dropped off at MOPPETS at 9:15am.

We are very excited to have Edie Gilligan with us for our first meeting of 2012. She will share WoNdErFuL ideas for your family. She will make you laugh and make you cry (or laugh until you cry!). The ideas she shares often inspires women to be the best mom they can be. Her topic this week is: What Happened to Happy?

Meet Edie Gilligan...The Parent Coach

Mrs. Gilligan graduated from U.C. Irvine with a degree in English/Writing. During college, she started teaching Preschool as a way to make money and knew right away this field was for her. She continued her career as a teacher, then preschool director and later returned to school to earn her teaching credential. She began teaching at a private school in Orange County loving every minute of it.

For the last 5 years, she has had the pleasure of teaching for the Capistrano Unified School District. Parenting classes for both parent and me programs and evening seminars has become her passion. She has also taken up public speaking on the subject of parenting and family life. MOPS groups, mother's clubs and schools are enjoying her clever combination of heart and humor. She is consistently voted onto the top speakers list of these organizations each year.

Coaching parents is a mission. Getting to know families and watching their progress as they become educated and supported in reaching the goals they have for their family is a privilege. With two children of her own, hundreds of students, both children and adults over the years, she has developed a keen insight and a gift for encouraging and empowering parents and children.

As parents, we must have great expectations. We forgive and ask for forgiveness. We must love our children enough to be the parent they need, not necessarily the one they want. This takes courage and a real commitment to raising good, loving, hard-working, strong and compassionate people.
